Vaginal Odor and smells -
There is much confusion among women who suffer
from vaginal odor. First let us clarify that
the vagina full stop is not a smelly organ of
the body, however it can be given reason to
smell
through other factors
which have you believe that you do have a
vaginal odor (Smelly
vagina.)
Also the vagina is self
cleaning organ so no need for rigorous
cleansing as some women with this problem tends
to do.
The most primary
cause of vaginal odor is bacterial vaginosis,
resulting from an overgrowth of organisms
normally present in the vagina. The odor —
usually a "fishy" smell — may be more obvious
after sexual intercourse. As with all female
concerns relating to the vagina i.e. infections
and other there are effective treatments to get
rid. Other signs and symptoms of bacterial
vaginosis include vaginal itching or
irritation, and a greyish-whitish vaginal
discharge. Treatment of bacterial vaginosis may
include antibiotics prescribed by your doctor.
Never must you use any unfamiliar products on
this area of the body without talking to your
GP first. In saying that, either for any other
part too. Going off the advice of a friend or
family member and swallowing pills from another
source is unadvisable, as it can be very
dangerous indeed.
Another common cause of
vaginal odor is poor hygiene. Poor hygiene does
not mean that you are dirty in yourself,
however if stale sweat or pee is left for a
while to cling to pubic hair then vaginal
smells can occur from this. Also tampons left
to long inside the vagina can cause vaginal
odor. Cleanse and wash your external genital
area during regular baths or showers. Use
little soap and the sort of mild and unscented.
Perfumed toiletries in and around the genitals
can only add to your problem. Douching isn't
necessary and can be unhealthy. Get GP advice
if you are considering this option. All female
vaginas contain little bacteria and other
organisms. The normal acidity of the vagina
keeps bacteria and yeast in check. But douching
can actually upset this delicate
balance.
Other less common causes of
vaginal odor include:
At
the time of your period "losing" a tampon
inside the vagina is not healthy. This occurs
when a tampon rises to the upper part of the
vagina and lodges there. Seek help if you are
worried. A forgotten tampon can result in a
vaginal infection, which can produce an
unpleasant smell. Female infections of the
vagina are treatable.
Rectovaginal fistula. Trauma
during childbirth may lead to a rectovaginal
fistula — an abnormal opening between the
rectum and vagina. This allows feces to leak
into the vagina, producing a fecal odor. All of
the above mentioned have solutions so therefore
not to worry.
Cancer of the cervix or
vagina.
If
vaginal odor persists, consult your doctor.
Depending on vaginal infections and which you
may suffer from can have you feel or experience
pain when urinating, itching, or see the skin
flare up with a rash. Your doctor can determine
what infection is present from the symptoms you
have and therefore can prescribe the
appropriate medication to treat the infection
that may well be the cause of your vaginal
odor.
